Neo-cumbia, tropical elegance and an entire Amazon rainforest of electronica
Nicola Cruz is an electronic producer, musician and DJ. Born in France to proud South American descent, he currently lives and works in Quito, Ecuador, in the heart of the Andes Mountains. Nicola started his career as a percussionist, after which he shifted towards electronic music. His work draws from a broad variety of sources, in particular a passion for the Andean landscapes, their cultures, rituals and rhythms. Because of this, his music radiates an intimate understanding of nature, from the organic exuberance of his sound to the soft cadence of his songs. However, in this mix a delicate balance between forces always prevails – his music is deeply rhythmic, but without losing intimacy or melody.
From this musical connection between past and present, traditional and modern, an ongoing South American movement has arisen, seeking to create music with a spiritual component, with consciousness. Nicola Cruz has explored the region’s indigenous and afro cosmologies, and it is precisely this that has made him an icon.
His first full album, Prender el Alma, came out in 2015, in which he consolidates his Andean sound and tropical sound explorations.
