Chucho Valdés: Irakere 50

Thursday 11 July

Chucho Valdés: Irakere 50 IN CONCERT AT THE FESTIVAL CRUÏLLA 2024!

In 1973, the band Irakere was born in the Orquesta Cubana de Música Moderna, which marked a before and after in Latin jazz for the way it fused Afro-Cuban ritual music with Cuban popular music, rock or classical music, among other genres.

On Thursday July 11 at the Festival Cruïlla: don’t miss the return of Chucho Valdés to Barcelona and his tribute to the band he started five decades ago!

To revive the work of this emblematic group, Chucho Valdés, pianist, composer, arranger and winner of 13 Grammy awards, will be leading the ‘Irakere 50‘ project, accompanied by his son Julián Valdés (percussion), the musicians of his quartet: José A. Gola (electric and acoustic bass), Horacio Hernández (drums) and Roberto Jr. Vizcaíno Torre (percussion), as well as Eddie de Armas Jr. (trumpet), Osvaldo Fleites (trumpet), Luis Beltrán (saxophone), Carlos Averhoff Jr. (saxophone), son of a former member of Irakere, now deceased, and vocalist Ramón Alvarez, to make us relive live some of his achievements such as “Bacalao con pan” or “Cien años de juventud”.
