Born in Zambia and raised in Botswana, her origins have a major influence on the music of Sampa the Great, who, with her debut album ‘The Return’, embraces rap and hip-hop, contemporary spirit and the ancient sounds of southern Africa. It is the result of four years of personal and musical research and a redefinition of her identity, which three years later led to ‘As Above, So Below’, her second album, and several singles that were successfully received by the public. Sampa the Great won the Bandcamp Best Album Award and the Australian Music Prize in 2019, was named Hip-Hop Artist of the Year by both Music Victoria and the National Live Music Awards, and has been praised by media outlets such as Pitchfork and The Guardian. This is, therefore, a project acclaimed by critics, the industry, and the public, which we will enjoy for the second time in the city.
After selling out in Australia and Europe and celebrating her last performance in Barcelona in 2022, Sampa returns to the city with the Festival Cruïlla 2026!
